Ditching the Phone for PC Video Calls: Why I Made the Switch

Ditching the Phone for PC Video Calls: Discover the benefits of better quality, fewer distractions, and easier multitasking with a PC setup.

Ditching the Phone for PC Video Calls: My phone used to be my go-to for video calls when they became a regular part of my life. But after a while, I kept running into small issues that made it frustrating. Switching to my PC has been a game-changer for quality, comfort and ease of use.

Ditching the Phone for PC Video Calls: The Reasons Behind My Switch

Enhanced Video and Audio Quality

One of the first things I noticed was that my PC’s video and audio quality were often better than my phone’s. Phones may have great cameras, but there’s more to it than just camera specs.

On my PC, I can use a dedicated webcam and microphone, which improves video clarity and sound quality. Even without extra equipment, my laptop’s built-in camera provides a steadier view than holding my phone.

Plus, video quality on phones can sometimes drop due to Wi-Fi. PCs, especially with a solid Ethernet connection, usually give a more consistent, crisp video experience.

Stronger Connection Reliability

With my PC connected directly to the router through Ethernet, I’ve avoided the connectivity issues I often had on my phone. On important video calls, the last thing I need is lagging or a dropped connection—especially during a key part of a presentation or discussion.

Using Ethernet, I don’t face the same buffering or sudden freezes that sometimes happen on a phone’s Wi-Fi. The video is steady and everyone’s voice and image come through clearly without interruptions. It makes the whole experience smoother and more reliable.

Bigger Screen, Better Comfort

A bigger screen on my PC is an excellent feature when making video chats. I was constantly straining or shifting my phone to see everyone, especially during larger gatherings. I have more room on my PC which makes it simpler to see individuals, documents or presentations.

The bigger screen also reduces eye strain. On my phone, I had to lean in or adjust to read small text or see who was talking. But with my PC, everything is bigger so I can sit back comfortably & see everything I need without straining. It makes whole experience more relaxed.

Promotes a More Comfortable Posture

My posture is much better now that I’m using my computer. In order to see the screen on my phone, I would frequently have to bend forward, hold it at strange angles or crane my neck. Even with a phone stand, it didn’t help much—it just became another gadget I didn’t use.

With my PC, I can set up my desk and chair to support a better, more natural posture. Screen is at eye level so I can sit up straight and avoid neck strain.

This simple change has made video calls much more comfortable, especially on longer calls. Now, I don’t finish a call feeling sore or needing to stretch out.

Simple Multitasking

A big advantage of using my PC for video calls is easier multitasking. During calls, I often need to take notes, check emails or open documents. On my phone, this felt like juggling—switching between apps, accidentally closing meeting or dealing with small screen.

With my PC, everything I need is just a click away. I can keep the video call open in one window and have my notes or files beside it. This keeps me organized and allows me to consult information without disrupting meetings. I also don’t lose my thoughts because typing on a PC keyboard is considerably faster than on phone screen.

Fewer Distractions and More Customization

Making video calls from my PC has significantly lessened the distractions I frequently had when using my phone. Social media, text and other app notifications would appear on my phone during meetings, luring me to check them. Even with Do Not Disturb mode enabled, I found it difficult to resist the temptation to check messages or swipe away notifications, which frequently took my attention away from the discussion.

I have a lot more control over what happens on my PC. I may limit my notifications to work-related ones or turn off unnecessary apps which will help me concentrate during the call. Additionally, there’s something about using a PC that, for me, creates a mental “work mode” boundary. I can remain more attentive during the meeting and am less prone to become sidetracked.

Another big plus is customization options I get with my PC. I can adjust my camera settings & audio levels especially if I’m using external devices. Plus, features like virtual backgrounds, custom layouts and filters are often easier to access and more flexible on PC than on phone.

My PC also lets me run additional apps like note generators, which help me keep track of discussions when I can’t take notes manually.

Switching from my phone to my PC for video calls has made a big difference in my comfort, productivity, and focus. With better video and audio quality, a larger screen and a setup that promotes good posture, experience now feels more natural and part of my workflow, instead of a chore.
