7 Tips to Boost Your Android TV Performance

Discover 7 simple tips to boost your Android TV performance and enjoy a smoother viewing experience.

Just like your smartphone, your Android TV can start to feel slow over time. This can happen for many reasons, such as outdated software or too much cache data. If you’ve noticed your Android TV is running slower than usual, don’t worry. There are various options for fixing it. Try these Tips to Boost Your Android TV Performance and get it functioning smoothly again.

Easy Tips to Boost Your Android TV Performance

Clear Cache and Remove Unnecessary Files

Apps use cache to store temporary data that allows them to load faster and perform better. While caching is useful, having too much of it will slow down your Android TV. Clearing trash can speed things up, but your device may feel slower thereafter while it reloads new data.

To clear the cache: go to Settings > System > Storage > Internal Shared Storage, select Cached Data, and click OK to delete it.

Next, clear out unnecessary files to free up space. Just like your phone, your Android TV needs space to run smoothly. Delete old media files or unused apps. A file manager can help with this.

Uninstall or Disable Unused Apps

Installing too many apps on your Android TV can slow it down, especially if some are always running in the background. If you notice performance issues, consider removing apps you no longer need.

To uninstall an app: go to Settings > System > Storage > Internal Shared Storage > Apps > See All Apps. From there, choose the app you want to remove, select Uninstall and confirm by clicking OK. If it’s a system app you won’t be able to uninstall it but you can disable it instead if that option is available.

Turn Off Automatic Updates

Automatic updates keep your device up to date by checking for and installing updates automatically. However, they can slow performance by using resources in the background and taking up storage space.

To stop your Android TV from auto-updating, go to Settings > System > About > Software Update and turn off Auto Update.

Keep Your Apps Updated

App developers release updates to fix bugs and improve features. If your TV seems slow while using a particular app, it could be because of an outdated version. Check for and install updates to that software as soon as possible. Keeping your apps updated ensures improved performance and access to the most recent features.

Change Animation Settings

Android TV animations make the interface look smooth but can slow down performance, especially on older or low-spec TVs. To speed up your TV you can disable or reduce animations.

To do this, you first need to enable Developer options. Go to Settings > System > About and click on Android TV OS Build seven times.

Then, go back to the previous screen and select Developer options. From there, lower the Transition animation, Window animation, and Transition animator scale to 0.5x or turn them off completely by selecting Animation off for all three.

Restart Your TV

Restarting your Android TV is a simple and effective technique to boost its performance. If your TV has been turned on for a time, it may slow down due to background programs, malfunctions, or excessive memory usage. A restart clears memory, reduces background programs, and resolves software faults.

To restart your TV: go to Settings > System > Restart and confirm by selecting Restart again.

Reset Your TV to Factory Settings

If nothing else works, a factory reset can help speed up your TV by restoring it to its original state. It will erase all settings, accounts, data and installed apps, so make sure to back up any important data before resetting.

To reset, go to Settings > System > About > Reset > Factory Reset and confirm.

A factory reset can fix sluggish performance and improve your TV’s speed.
